Department Officers - President
Judy Hennis was elected as Department President of the American Legion Auxiliary for the 2017-2018 term. Judy’s eligibility is through her father, Howard R. Groves, Sr., who was a Korean War Veteran. Judy comes from a military family with numerous family members being United States Veterans. Judy is also married to Cecil “Bud” Hennis, American Legion National Executive Committeeman for the Department of South Carolina.
Judy served as President of Unit 178, Murrells Inlet, for 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 terms. Judy has served as Junior Vice-President and Senior Vice-President for the Department of South Carolina. She has served on the Department’s Constitution and Bylaw Ad-hoc Committee as well as a past member of the Constitution and By-laws Committee for the Department 2015-2016 and 2016-2017.
Judy is a college graduate who worked as a Litigation Paralegal for 25 years. She is a very proud parent of two children and a step-son. She has a son Daniel, who is a member of the Sons of the American Legion and a daughter, Nicole, who is a member of Unit 178 Auxiliary, and step-son Forrest Hennis who is a member of the Sons of the American Legion.
Judy’s theme for the year is “SISTERS IN SERVICE” as we are all sisters in this organization. Her project for the year is “Charleston Fisher House”. The property has been purchased near the Ralph A. Johnson VA and the ground breaking has taken place to build this “Home away from Home” for our Veteran’s Families.
Judy is very honored to serve as your Department President this year and she is looking forward to working with all the Units in our Department.
